The 68W health care specialist will and can also work as the senior enlisted person in a clinical setting, as well as the Platoon Sergeant of a medical platoon in field units. The 68W in specific situations may have to work in the absence of medical professionals or healthcare providers. Their work can consist of the administration of immunizations, collection of fluid samples, obtaining vitals and initial information from patients/casualties, treating trauma and illness related problems as well as patient care. They will work alongside with an Army PA, or doctor. Most health care specialists can and will work in post hospitals, clinics, and unit aid stations.
